Firearms deer hunting season is under way and New Hampshire officials are offering would-be hunters the chance to try the sport without having to pass a hunter safety program. Under a new law this year, Fish and Game officials are offering apprentice hunting license to those 18 and older. The license allows a novice hunter to accompany a licensed hunter throughout the season, which runs through Dec. 9. The licensed hunter must keep the apprentice within sight and earshot at all times. A person can purchase an apprentice hunting license only once. New Hampshire joins about 30 states that have initiated apprentice hunter programs in the past five years.
