BROCKTON — Charles Jaynes, who was convicted in 1998 of killing a 10-year-old Cambridge boy in one of the state’s most infamous murder cases, tried to persuade a judge Tuesday that he not only is a different person but also needs a new name.
Now bald and sporting a full, dark beard, Jaynes says he has converted to the Wiccan religion and must change his given name to Manasseh-Invictus Auric Thutmose V in order to truly practice it.

Animal. He should rot in hell. The sooner the better.
All I can think of is the father having to deal with this. Such agony.
Martha, they let the kid hang out with them at night before this happened. I can't get that out of my head. This is not discussed.
They should give HIM the sex-change instead...
Actually, the Wiccan tradition of taking new names, unlike the Muslim one, is often to take a name that is only used in private, among trusted people in the course of religious practice. Many people who use pagany public names use them for privacy's sake. Very few Wiccans legally change their name to anything else.

I do not think the founding fathers ever intended to have civil rights extended in such a way as to allow creeps like this to be heard in court , or murderering perverts to request sex change operations or electrolysis treatments. I think its long past time we start to treat these low life criminals for what they are , and stop trying to make nice in fear that we are somehow infringing on their rights ... I think I speak for every parent out there when I say that very few cases angered me more than this one , I always see the smiling face of that little boy - Jeffrey Curley in his baseball uniform .. smiling ... happy ...typical little kid , and to imagine the horror of what happened to him. To think that his father has to re live that by facing this creep in court .. for what ? ... so this child murderer can practice his religion ??? are we serious with this ? ... I do not know what we have to do , a constitutional amendment , re write the laws ... whatever it takes . but the day he killed that little boy is the day he no longer should have any rights at all in our society .. none .. he gets a 4 by 8 cell and thats it ... he gave up all his rights the day he decided to kidnap and kill an innocent little kid .
Your tax dolars at work...give these prisoners something to do other than file court petitions...
why was a 10-year-old allowed to be out with the two murderers (one of which we now read had 70 prior warrants) until 10 p.m. sometimes? Why is this never addressed? It's a horrific, despicable, heartbreaking tragedy all around, but the parents are not utterly blameless either.
There is so much wrong about this story, partly that Jaynes' is attempting to disguise himself behind a facade of facial hair and a very strange name. But the declaration of 'conversion to Paganism' is laughable. Paganism does not require conversion since most traditional religionists would be seeking to convert Pagans to Orthodoxy. Pagans are ante-institutional religious. Pagans embrace the natural world and are highly aware of the Spiritual forces around us. I also am unaware of how naming oneself like this is part of a conversion process that does not exist. At first I thought he was confusing Satanism with Paganism, an all-too-common and unfortunate problem. The name just looked evocative of pseudo-Satanism. But, I looked up each word and it loosely translates as "Thutmann, Ancient Egyptian Pharoah, the Golden (Auric) Forgetful (Manassah) and Invincible (Invictus)' with references from Latin, Hebrew and Egyptian sources. He has assumed the beard of some radical Islamists as well.
Jaynes is a killer with too much time on his hands and a distorted sense of creativity. Unfortunately, he is using the death of a child to parade himself in front of cameras, looking for his fifteen minutes of fame. Keep him away from the spotlight.
