State Police cruiser struck by driver early today on Route 128 in Waltham; trooper uninjured

A driver hit a State Police cruiser when the trooper was working a paid detail at a construction site on Route 128 in Waltham early today, State Police said.

The trooper was at the scene of a construction site in the left travel lanes of Route 128 South at Route 20, State Police said.

The driver struck the cruiser around 4 a.m.

The trooper was checked at the scene and was not injured, State Police said. The driver of the other vehicle was transported to Newton-Wellesley Hospital with minor injuries.

The incident remains under investigation, State Police said.

The highway reopened at approximately 5 a.m.
