Mayor Menino is diagnosed with type 2 diabetes

Has infection near spine, moves to rehab hospital

After more than five weeks in a hospital, Mayor Thomas M. Menino has been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, a chronic disease that doctors detected after an unusual infection developed near his spine.

Dr. Charles Morris made the diagnosis public Monday at a news conference as he announced that the mayor had been transferred from an acute-care facility to a rehabilitation hospital.

Ah . . . . . spoken like a true non Boston resident!

He's out of step with Cambridge and out of step with Boston. Where does he belong? How about Tupelo, Mississippi. They might think he has something to say that's worth listening to.

In my opinion Menino is hands down, the best mayor Boston has had since I moved here in 1983. Boston is a wonderful city. I just wish I could afford to live in a residential building downtown.

If his problems are as discribed why haven't we at least seen a picture of him.

Dodge the critics, Mr. Mayor! Get well and continue your mission to raise Boston above all of the flack! As I see it, the city owes you the chance to whip this latest health setback. Would you give up on Boston if "we" had a sudden illness--which was treatable? Certainly not! Godspeed!

Mayor Menino has gained a significant amount of weight. His facial appearance looks like it may be due to steroid medication, for some unknown condition. His bone fractures, his infections, his appearance all go along with steroid use as I have seen in many of my patients. Diabetes also can go along with steroid use.

Overall it looks like Menino has been dealing with an undisclosed illness. The Mayor should consider retiring. The power he holds as mayor, no matter how much he desires to keep it, is only secondary to being able to let it go and try to maintain and improve his health.

Are you licensed to practive in MA?  Because, seriously, anyone who feels competent to make a medical diagnosis without actually seeing the patient in person should not be. Especially when said diagnosis is based on your political dislike of the person.

I think sraad got his knowledge from some Internet forum where people discuss their medical problems and get advice from other people equally clueless.
