Drivers along Massachusetts highways could soon be seeing new, eye-catching scenery: electronic billboards.
The new state-approved regulations authorizing the billboards go into effect Dec. 7. They follow a three-year pilot program that tested the digital signs in selected areas and showed that electronic billboards created no safety hazards for motorists, said Sara Lavoie, a spokeswoman for the state Department of Transportation.

Will these have to be compliant with Massachusetts Dark Sky regulations? Does the state have any Dark Sky regulations. If it doesn't and a city does, does this override the city's . Are these billboards inherently dark-sky non-compliant?

The Mayor of Fall River finds electronic billboards to be aesthetically pleasing.
I am laughing and laughing.
How much money did Clear Channel spend for lobbying? Perhaps that has helped the Mass economy. I'm all for modernization, but the points made in this article of the benefits are ridiculous.

Electronic billboards are UGLY and this is a terrible step for Massachusetts - all in the name a few bucks. When they put them up in Somerville, they ruined the view as you approach the city. Who wants to see billboards instead of the city skyline and the Zakim Bridge?
Umm, the billboards were already there, and they were lit up.
This is really disappointing. Like Governor Dukakis, I've lived in LA and these things are just horrible. And I don't believe they're even remotely dark sky compliant.
