Newton Centre hit-and-run followed shortly by second car striking 90-year-old man

A hit-and-run driver struck a pedestrian in Newton Centre late Monday afternoon but came forward hours later, and a 90-year-old man was hit in the same intersection an hour later by a driver who stopped, Newton police said.

The first victim was crossing outside a crosswalk near the corner of Centre and Pleasant streets at about 5:35 p.m. when a car struck him and fled the scene, Lieutenant Bruce Apotheker said.
