Road ahead may get rocky for Governor Patrick

Tight finances, ailing agencies pose challenges

Private dinners at the White House. Rousing speeches to far-flung Democratic Party conclaves. A prime-time, nationally televised appearance at the party’s convention.

All that is now in Deval Patrick’s rearview mirror. Now the governor has returned to Massachusetts and is forced to give his full attention to the less glamorous world of the State House, where he faces a host of potentially explosive issues that will sorely challenge his ability to shape his legacy during the last two years of his governorship.

Yes, the next two years will be difficult for Deval.  Then again, the jumbo puzzler is a challenge for him.

Where was "the antitax lobby" whenever we were raising faires on the T?

Probably stuck in traffic.

“Some of these problems started before we took office or are a result of global economic forces, but that’s neither here nor there,’’ said Brendan Ryan, Patrick’s director of communications, who will soon take over as his chief of staff.  -------------- Ah, I see.  If it worked for his pal in DC then it must be OK for our Gov to fall back on it.  The argument fails since MA has a balanced budget amendment and inasmuch as Deval took office in January of 2007 any 1, 3, 5, ++ year budget plan would have clearly laid this out.  Sorry Mr. Ryan, you lost us on that one.

Patrick is sitting on a time-bomb of bad policy making, and poor management due to questionable credentials of those in charge at the Department of Public Health.

For example:

#1) Today the HHS Secretary, Dr. JudyAnn Bigby is quoted in another Globe article claiming she is having difficulty with trying to comprehend the many errors at the Jamaica Plain Lab!  REALLY?

p.s. It is called, "incompetent management."

#2. It took months of questioning before the Federal Drug Investigators got answers from DPH Regulatory Administrator - Jean Pointikas, but then she disappeared on 'Administrative Leave.'

p.s. Ms. Pointikas, with a Bunker Hill accounting certificate is the (a) DPH Administrator of the Regulatory & Licensure Department, and (b) Chairs numerous DPH health care boards and is c) very involved with the Jamaica Plain Laboratory where she left their office secretarial pool.

Governor, do you know the people (Management), "in charge" at the Department of Public Health?

Everything is a challenge if you are incompetent.
