Patrick targets local aid to help cover budget gap

Says $540m shortfall makes cuts necessary

Governor Deval Patrick announced an array of state budget cuts to help cover a $540 million shortfall Tuesday, including a further reduction in the money local communities use to pay teachers and firefighters.

Patrick said the midyear budget gap is a direct result of the economic uncertainty caused by failed fiscal cliff negotiations, which could trigger federal spending cuts and tax increases at the start of the new year.

Comments

The $540 million over run can be identified to Patrick's gross mismanagement and incompetence with the 50 meningitis deaths and the release of thousands of criminals by the Dept of Public Health (Bigby has not been had accountable and is still on the job).  Patrick should pay for this out of his own pocket but he is now punishing local towns.

any layoffs?

Nice job of budget forcasting!  Probably done but someone with a GED who was "sponsored" by a politician and given the job with no questions asked!!

Democrat trait. "I think revenue will be up next year. Lets spend a boatload of money." Later: "Oh revenue is down. Better raise taxes". SIMPLETONS!!!

"Patrick said the midyear budget gap is a direct result of the economic uncertainty caused by failed fiscal cliff negotiations, which could trigger federal spending cuts and tax increases at the start of the new year."

So Deval is telling us that Massachusetts needs a Federal government BAILOUT? How about some REAL facts and figures? Exactly how much is MA in the red?

How much did Deval's travel abroad cost, his campaigning for Obama? Payouts to illegal immigrants? Green Energy projects?

Then, just like in BANKRUPT California, Deval is going to tell us that, due to unforseen circumstances we need to increase taxes. On EVERYBODY, including the "Middle Class".
