Who hired Mass. highway safety director remains a mystery

The former state highway safety director, who resigned last month following revelations that she had a lengthy record of driving infractions at the time she sought the job, wrote in her 2007 application that she heard of the opening from Mary Beth Heffernan, now the Patrick administration’s public safety secretary.

Sheila Burgess, whose driving record includes six at-fault accidents and four speeding violations, also listed US Representative James McGovern of Worcester and former Boston advertising executive Jack Connors as references in the application, released Friday following a public records request from the Globe.

"The breakdown in protocol is extremely frustrating,” Patrick said. “My administration, like previous administrations, has brought on people who support our policies and agenda."

The above quote from Deville Deval says it all, just another "Hack Hire" nothoing wrong going on here, lets move along before this story gets traction ????? Remember folks, "Together We Can"

Because understanding how it happened is necessary to prevent these kinds of things from happening again.

That's typically how manipulation is done -- mistakes, oversights. That way there is plausible deniability. If anyone finds out, oh, it was just a mistake! And the beauty of it is that with human beings there ARE often mistakes. They happen all time, but the public thinks there are far fewer than there actually are. It's usually in the interests of most of the parties involved to cover up a mistake. The individual doesn't want it think that they made a mistake. The organization doesn't want to be known as a mistake making body. The public gets "anxious" if they hear about mistakes (and, to a politician, an anxious and aroused public is a good thing, but only to motivate the changes on his agenda). The net result is that people think there are far fewer accidental mistakes then there actually are. This makes the intentional "mistake" considerably easier -- especially if mistakes don't get deeply investigated. It's just another tree in the forest, another mosquito on your arm. So, the question is this: How do you reduce mistakes to as few as possible. And how do you ensure that intentional "mistakes" are found out. One way is deep investigation, and here the Globe is showing the way. Another is support for whistle blowing. Another is checks and balances and diversification of oversight. If multiple entities might uncover the "mistake" then it is a lot less sure that you won't be found out. Another is more formalized procedures and documentation. Another is consequences to violations. Anyway, good article, Globe.

Well, finally an admission from a high profile public office that people are hired solely for their contributions made to candidacy, qualifying credentials or personal qualities never with standing. Maybe an in-depth, exclusive special report on, for starters, this Boy and his administration's admitted contribution to such practice. How 'bout it Sean and Brian?

And what were the qualifications of the  Director of Highway Safety under the previous Republican Administration.  Rep. Jones would have us believe that being a Democratic operative is not a qualification but being a Republican operative is.  And more importantly, did they do the job?

My God.

nothing to see here - just move along.

"Attended UMass Boston" sounds an awful lot like Annie Dookhan having a Masters Degree.  Just sayin...

Another Democratic political consultant and fund raiser being paid by taxpayer funds and the Globe is looking for the hiring managers. It was Patrick and McGovern who decided to steal some taxpayer money for their political machines and park her there, just as thousands more throughout the state are happily parked.. One party rule needs a one party press to support their corruption. No hiring manager is going to say no to her connections.

Democrats protecting each other. What do you expect from a one party state and dumb voters who keep on voting the same corrupted politicans back. In this state the voters would vote for anything as long as it has a D after it's name.

Which of the current leadership or legislator can not come forth and face the music on this one? Care to take a guess?????? or is the Globe not telling?????

Small potatoes compared to the coming lawsuits against the state for "overseeing" the Pharmacy who sent out tainted medications killing 39 people after the board was alerted and did nothing.... Burgess was just another  employee with her snout in the trough....

Waiting for Deval to blame the hiring on Bush.

Is this person working in a different hack position?   Is she getting any money from the state right now?
