One of the many traditional Globe Santa fund-raising events is the annual Walter’s Run held each December in West Roxbury.
This year, the 19th annual road races will be held Sunday morning. The senior adult and children’s races start from the YMCA building at 11 Bellevue St.
The event, however, is more than just two road races. It is also a neighborhood get-
together with residents lining the streets to cheer the runners as they make their way over the two scenic racecourses.
The first race is for children 10 and under, and that will go off at 10:40 a.m., with the adults starting their run at 11 a.m.
Not only does money raised by Walter’s Run go to Globe Santa, but it also aids the West Roxbury/Roslindale YMCA.
The races are sponsored by the Parkway Running Club and named for Walter Burgess, a runner and member of the club who died in 2003 at the age of 40.
At the time of his death, Burgess had run in 26 marathons, as well as many other races across the nation.
When the races are finished, a raffle will be held, as well as a food feast provided by the neighborhood’s merchants.
