Former state treasurer Timothy P. Cahill’s co-defendant was cleared of corruption charges today, but a jury continued to deliberate on charges that Cahill himself used public money to boost his faltering 2010 gubernatorial campaign when he authorized an ad campaign touting the state lottery.
Scott Campbell, Cahill’s former campaign manager, was acquitted by a Suffolk Superior Court jury of two conspiracy charges.

What Martha Coakley's case against Campbell lacked in evidence of criminal wrongdoing, it more than made up for in revealing her raw, naked political ambition. Coakley does not seem to care that when she indicts someone on scant evidence of criminal intent, she is acting both unethically and immorally. It matters not at all to her that Campbell had to live with the terror of possible imprisonment, pay legal fees (well earned, btw), and attempt to live his life under the harsh glare of the media. To Coakley, individuals lacking powerful connections are just so many small ants to be crushed as she marches on toward higher office.
This is a witch hunt Cahill should be acquitted
A weak case from the beginning.
