What’s most surprising about the fake-bearded Santa movement is that they have a point. Long ridiculed by “real” Santas with “real” beards, Santas who wear “fashion beards” are arguing that their beards look better — a white beard is famously difficult to care for — and make Santa a role for an actor to inhabit, rather than a lifestyle that comes with a year-round obligation. Recently, a real-bearded Santa on vacation was asked to leave Disney World for looking too Santa-like.
