In another reversal, Holyoke mayor drops pursuit of casino

In another dramatic U-turn, Mayor Alex Morse of Holyoke has killed potential casino developments in his city, a month after he shocked supporters by reversing a longtime anticasino stance and announcing he was open to a gambling resort.

Morse, in a statement Thursday, apologized to city residents for briefly opening the door to casinos, which he said was a mistake that stemmed from the allure of millions of dollars in tax revenue.

shame on the city of Holyoke for electing a kid to govern them. What did u expect?

His job is to carry out the wishes of the voters.  He's young and likely uncorrupted.  I give him huge credit for having the guts to change his postion (again).  There aren't too many pols out there who would not only make another about-face but who would do it with such open and direct ownership.  He didn't cast any blame on anyone but himself.

I agree. It takes guts to own your mistakes or to admit to a certain indecisiveness. He has to balance the will of Holyoke's residents with their best economic interests.

What did they expect? He's a child, they change their minds.

Gee, I'm sorry to the 3 who disliked my post. Exactly which part was incorrect?

I'm sure a 23-year-old doesn't have a lot of experience in handling political pressures and can make some missteps, but really people, this is a very, very minor thing. I agree with Rileysdad and JLErwin3

He may otherwise be a very good mayor. I don't know because I don't live in Holyoke.

I notice we have the usual negative posts by the usual characters.

Not a minor thing, It was what he ran on. It's what got him elected.

Another usual character. hah.
