Sunny skies to give way to rain, snow

Sunny skies will prevail over the Bay State through Saturday, but wet weather is on the way.

Temperatures will be in the 40s for the rest of the workweek, but the mercury will drop to the mid-30s just in time for a wave of precipitation to move in, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather service issued a hazardous weather outlook warning of a series of low pressure systems marching across New England that will cause a number of storms next week, said meteorologist Charlie Foley.

Forecasters are unable to determine now which of the storms will be the strongest because computer models are so varied, he said.

There is a chance of minor snow accumulation in Western and Central Massachusetts and across the North Shore on Sunday, but most of the region will only see rain, Foley said.

The precipitation will likely start to fall around noon, he said.

“Even Boston could start off with a little bit of a rain or snow mix but then it will go over to all rain with temperatures getting up to the high 30s,” Foley said.

Another batch of precipitation will hit the state Monday night, according to the weather service.

Temperatures may be warm enough that the Bay State will only see rain, but if the mercury drops, interior areas could see several inches of snow.

The third storm should arrive Tuesday into Wednesday, Foley said.

The coast could see strong winds and minor flooding, according to the weather service.
