Two men face charges following Chelsea tire jack attack

Two 21-year-old men pleaded not guilty in Chelsea District Court on Thursday to charges that they beat another man with a tire jack during an argument that officials said may have arisen over a pair of stolen sneakers.

Alexander Guevara, of Chelsea, and Antonio Rivera, of Boston, were arraigned on charges of assult and battery with a dangerous weapon, according to the Suffolk district attorney’s office.

The men are accused of using a tire jack to beat a 24-year-old Chelsea man on the head on Sunday. Both men are expected back in court Jan. 11.

The victim was treated at Massachusetts General Hospital for injuries that were serious but not life-threatening, according to the district attorney’s office.
