A nursing student has helped save the life of a resident at an assisted-living facility in Bennington. Second-year student Eva Friend had just arrived at Washington Elms Nov. 26 when a registered nurse yelled for her to quickly come to the back porch. Jerry BeShane was found slumped over in a chair. The Bennington Banner reported that Friend found he did not have a pulse, and she did CPR on him. BeShane was resuscitated at least once, but then crashed again. Friend continued her compressions. A rescue squad arrived after several minutes and took him to the hospital. BeShane eventually returned to the facility.
