Opening for Suffolk sheriff job turns a few heads

A decade ago, a vacancy in the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department turned a nonpartisan prosecutor into a potential political player. Now that Andrea Cabral is leaving the department to become state public safety secretary, other hopefuls are eyeing the sheriff’s seat as a launching pad.

But one of the most obvious contenders for the post is highly unlikely to win the appointment, political observers say, due to long-lasting political grudges.

This is a plum appointment for somebody that has the years for retirement.  The $120K salary plus the 80% retirement is enough to double most State workers retirement.

Typical Mass politics. Not one professional, qualified, experienced candidate with a background in corrections or law enforcement mentionned. Nauseating.

I was going to say exactly what richstan already said!  How discouraging for those who have spent their lives working in law enforcement.  And what a disservice to the public, who could benefit from their experience.
