Nearly 3,000 people in Woonsocket briefly lost power after someone cut down a tree and it fell on power lines. National Grid spokeswoman Jackie Barry said about 2,900 people initially lost electricity after the accident at about 2:30 p.m. Sunday. But she said workers were able to quickly reduce the outages to just a few dozen people, with full power expected to be restored by late afternoon. She said the tree did not appear to damage any infrastructure, which was why the power could be quickly restored.
