Patrick to renew push for tougher gun laws

Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick said today that he will renew his push for tougher gun laws in Massachusetts in the aftermath of the massacre at a Newtown, Conn., elementary school.

Patrick said he spoke today to House and Senate leaders about acting on legislation he has introduced, which would, among other changes, forbid buyers from purchasing more than one gun a month.

The governor has no idea what he is talking about. Straw purchasing occurs outside of Massachusetts,so his proposal will have no impact. He should encourage a national discussion about standardizing the gun laws so that they make sense and ensure that only responsible people have access to firearms. Lets talk about licensing, proficiency tests and security responsibilities. Banning a particular type of weapon does not address the problems. That is akin to banning Corvettes and telling drivers you can only drive Impalas. Would that prevent speeding? Patrick is clueless or misinformed.
