Kosilek’s lawyers to be paid $700,000

A federal judge said Wednesday that he will award more than $700,000 in legal fees to the team of lawyers who represented Michelle Kosilek, the convicted murderer who sued the state for a sex change operation to treat her gender identity disorder.

US District Chief Judge Mark L. Wolf said from the bench in US District Court in Boston that he recognized the cost to taxpayers, but said the amount comes from a hard-fought lawsuit to preserve Kosilek’s constitutional rights.

Mark Wolf needs to GO!  He really has it in for the taxpayers.

Isn't there a conflict of interest here with Judge Wolf who ruled on the original sex change operation for a convicted murderer serving life sentence and then ruling on the payment to the lawyers representing the murderer?  It just seems to me that convicted murderers give up some "Constitutional rights" when they are convicted like voting rights.  Why not also lose the right to a sex change operation?

$700,000 awarded for probably less than $7000 of work. Outrageous.

I didn't realize that those who brutally murder others should enjoy the same benefits as those who contribute to society. Most of those who suffer from gender identity disorder can't afford the sex change operation that the taxpayers will be paying for a murderer with Judge Wolf's decision. Cruel and unusual punishment was Kosilek strangling his wife with a wire, not the fact that he'll have to live out the rest of his life in prison with a mental disorder. Fighting Judge Wolf's interpretation of the Constitution needs to be taken to the highest court. I'd rather my tax dollars go towards fighting this than to pay a dime towards Kosilek legal team or operation. This is outrageous!

Give he/she the operation and save the taxpayers $650,000.

And then anyone else out there needing a sex change operation just needs to do a crime, and get in jail, and the Mass taxpayers can pay the bill.

Probono case turns into a $700k pay check coutesy of the state...that is the real crime here...this murderer has nothing but time on his hands and the state is providing him with free entertainment and fulfilling all his wishes on the backs of the taxpayer...think about that the next time you pay a $50 copay for a prescription or doctor's visit and electrolysis is not covered by insurance...unless you are a murderer and then it's free.

We paid $700K to the convicted murderer who sued the state for a sex change operation to treat her gender identity disorder.  Because, we don't want the murderer to be upset, and we have no other use for the money?   What a freaking state.
