An early 20th-century Newport mansion has sold for $16 million, the highest for a Rhode Island home this year and the second highest ever. The Providence Journal reported that Gustave White Sotheby’s International Realty said Wednesday that the price for Hopedene, a waterfront estate on the Cliff Walk, is second only to $17.2 million for Miramar, another Newport mansion. The sellers are Craig and Michelle Millard, and the buyer was identified as Hopedene LLC. Hopedene is a Georgian Revival completed in 1902 and is situated on more than 6 acres.
