William F. Weld’s return to Boston seven weeks ago seemed a twilight turn for the restless executive – a soft landing spot with a comfortable lobbying office, in a town where the waiters call him governor and his wry humor resonates with a certain generation.
That may be the case.

Bill Weld is like reading yesterdays newspaper
wow what a clever comment
a perfectly appropriate comment, dewitt.
If he runs as a Republican he will have to hold his nose if he wants to go to Washington to join the tea baggies cranks and crazies. I would not vote for him as I vote for NO Republican now. But as the Republican party USED to be I think I may have voted for him against Silber who was a conservadem NO Dem by today's standards. Still the Republican Party is SO HORRIFIC, SO FILLED with Christian Taliban that I could NEVER vote Republican and besides I LOVE LOVE LOVE Ed Markey. He is a GEM. Sorry Bill Weld, this time I could not vote for you because you will be too soft a voice for Republican moderation in bed with a bunch of know nothing screaming hyenas and rabid cats who cannot be coraled. Weld is a gentleman but his Party is SO bad, SO racist, SO intractable, SO anti women and anti choice, anti science that NO Democrat with a conscience could risk having another Republican in the Senate. Oh BTW, Scott Brown, YOU ARE DONE!!!!
nrosen sounds a bit like the archtypal Massachusetts Democrat. Ed Markey? You must be kidding.
Markey has an office of very young Toadies who diligently scan the horizon in an effort to gather neutral_feel good topics they can spin to get Markey's mooch into the press corp spin.
That could result in an interesting primary contest. I just can't see a former Governor aspiring in earnest for a junior Senator spot, and one only guaranteed for two years at that.
Better than no job at all!
The Duke is turning into the cranky uncle. So much for holiday season civility.
Much better than Scott Brown. He was a good Gov & if it comes down to having to have a GOP Senator he would stand up for MA values & be a voice of reason in the GOP.
Obama has enough people in his 'Echo_Chamber.'
How would Bill Weld be part of an echo chamber? Just becuase he doesn't hate gays?
Oh PLEASE, Mr Weld, run for senator! We need somebody like you, somebody with staure and intelligence and wit and humor. What we do NOT need is Scott Brown. Please. Make my New Year! Say you'll run!
OMG_what we have here is one of those 'single white women' who voted Obama.
@cantabridgian1: is there anyone in this state you don't hate? Maybe you should consider leaving?
How come the Glob isn't grabbing the brass ring and starting an earthquake for Teddy K the Junior? After all, one of the two Massachusetts seats in the U.S. Senate belongs to the Kennedy clan.... And there was that report this week in that obscure sheet, the Boston Business Journal, saying Teddy Junior was pondering a wandering to the Senate. . .
Did Junior say it's in his blood?????? Pathetic.
Hog-wash to people who claim Massachusetts is "no different" than other states.
@boatwrote: becuase liberals and Globe writers are nothing like your fantasy caricatures of them?
Carpet_Bagger!
don't waste your time or money, talk is a Kennedy from conn. is getting in the race, he's a shoe in.
