Mayor Thomas M. Menino said Thursday that he expected to be released from a rehabilitation hospital Sunday, potentially ending an eight-week hospital stay that has kept him out of the public eye longer than at any time since he took office in 1993.
Menino offered the prediction during a conversation with Boston Pops conductor Keith Lockhart, who asked during a visit when the mayor might leave Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital.

Bostonians all pray that our Mayor can be home at Christmas, as that is how it should be, even for those that don't participate in our culture. Tom has made it clear that he intnds to join the fray for one last round, regardless of health or what is best for the general public. Until we have collected our 3000 signatures, my esteemed colleague and I, one William Darcena, shall be generous, civil and the Gentlemem that we are. After that, one of us is destined to replace Menino, unless we are fortunate enough to field a superior candidate, a person that I would support, but that is highly unlikely ; nobody is quitting a high-end job to run for Mayor. The truth & facts shall prevail. Merry Christmas!
Hang down your head, Tom Dooley.
That's what Howie Carr calls me.
Wishing mayor Menino the best for the holiday season!!!!
Watching that video one can draw only one conclusion, this man had a stroke. It's time to tell the truth about his condition.
I cannot believe this. This man is very, very ill and the Mayor's folks are not telling us the truth. The guy had a stroke. I can see why the mayor's administration doesn't want to feed too many particulars on the mayor's condition because one has to deal from a position of strength and not weakness. Keep everybody guessing. That may be how you keep your opponents away from you, but it is not how one levels with the people who elected you. The truth, please. It will only hurt the Mayor if he recovers enough to run again (doubtful at this point) or anyone who he may tap to replace him. And that won't work either. The citizens of Boston do not like being told who they will vote for by the Mayor..case in point, O'Toole vs. Baker City Council race. What a flop that was for the Mayor.
