2 lost boys recovered from Halifax woods

Two young boys lost in the woods of Halifax were rescued by State Police and Halifax authorities Friday evening, State Police said.

The 12-year-old boys were reported lost to State Police around 4:35 p.m., and a request for helicopter support from the State Police Air Wing soon followed, said Trooper Kenneth Gaetz, a spokesman for the State Police.

The children were located by the helicopter at approximately 5:45 p.m. , said Gaetz.

The boys were located quickly due to a cellphone call, according to WBZ news reports. One boy called a parent for help, and police and fire officials were notified, they said.

The children were found barefoot in a swampy area of Halifax after they lost their shoes in the muck. Halifax police and fire officials waded out up to their knees in muddy water once the two were located, WBZ reported.

The boys were briefly hospitalized, but have returned home, WBZ reported.

“We’re glad we found them,” said Halifax police Sergeant Ted Broderick. “It was a good team effort to get out there and get them found.”
