Brown swipes at Markey’s residency

Scott Brown, in an attempt to define a potential Senate campaign rival before the race even kicks off, questioned Wednesday whether US Representative Edward J. Markey is a bona fide resident of Massachusetts.

Brown took to talk radio, his favored venue, to question whether Markey, the Malden Democrat whose Senate candidacy top Democrats are rallying around, spends too much time in Washington and not enough time in the Bay State.

Comments

Brown has no idea what he is talking about and his charge shows how partisan and truly loose with facts he can be. Fact of the matter is that Ed Markey's office is in Medford Square. The fact is that I live and work out of my home office in Meford Square. I bump into the Congressman all the time. We discuss Red Sox and the Patriots most of the time. Ed Markey has always been open and accesible to all of his constituents. I would be happy to discuss these facts with any GLOBE reporter at anytime. Scott Brown should cease and desist from making up facts just because he has not bumped into Congressman Markey on his flites/returns to Boston. Perhaps Scott Brown should havde paid a little more attention to legislation instead of worrying about politics all the time and about whom is flying with him from Washington DC airports. Now that Scott is out of work I would suggest that he not pursue a career as a private detective--his obseervational skill is NOT so keen.

Mr. Brown, please pick a REAL issue to discuss.

Ed's absolutely brilliant on "real" issues.  He's one of the best at parroting the party line, and it makes no difference what the party line is, you can bet that Ed will support it.  In fact, if it will get him votes, you can bet that Ed will support it.  He's the perfect poster boy for term limits.

If scamming affirmative action isn't a 'Real issue', you will have to provide a list of acceptable issues.  If Markey were found to have cheated on taxes, is that ok?

Brown, ever the master of the cheap shot, is at it again. Major issues that affect people's lives are not the usual topics discussed. I'm almost glad he';s back for another beating.

I didn't see it in the Globe, but Markey's statement about his vote is on his website. The fact the Brown went against his earlier pledges was newsworthy. Markey's vote probably was not.

I think any politician who makes absolute pledges about fiscal matters is being stupid. Conditions change. What happens 5 years down the road might require a different response.

Brown, you're a cheap human being and a lousy Politician.   Oh,and thanks for spending my taxes on a trip home every weekend.

Replies

Amazing that 15 Massachusetts morons would actually like this stupid statement.

I think you have it all wrong. The moron is more likely to be the person who thinks everybody else is a moron.

We'll, I mean, Markey sure doesn't look like someone who lives in Malden. Just look at him.

This comment is not contructive. I'm sure you can think of something more worthwhile to contribute.

How about this, carafram:  Has anyone ever seen the tops of Ed Markey's ears?

This says it all:

"It is not uncommon for House members’ families to live in Washington. Brown’s wife, Gail Huff, moved with him there, taking a job as a local television journalist after her husband’s special election victory. Brown himself transferred from the Massachusetts National Guard last year to the Maryland National Guard."

Brown is such a hypocryte!

That's it.  No heritage issues?  Their must be something else Mr. Brown can find that doesn't relate to policies he can run on.  I don't have a problem with Brown the pol I don't think he fits in Mass. but geez all this guy seems to talk about is anything except his positions.  Oh well another ugly campaign that will have nothing to do with important issues just "glossy magaizine" scandal stuff.  Yuch.

Give him time and I'm sure he'll come up with more, or someone on his staff will.

You're a mean one, Mr. Brown.
You're acting like a troll.
You're as cuddly as a cactus,
You've a wart upon your soul,
Mr. Brown.
You're a bad reminder of a greasy old pol.

Replies

If Brown is a "bad reminder of a greasy old pol," one must assume that the actual greasy old pols are the other members of the Massachusetts congressional delegation - or perhaps the preposterous poseurs who inhabit Beacon Hill.

What will Scott Brown do without his shills at WTKK repeating every slur he slings at his opponent?

Oh yea, The Globe, which has already run not one but but two pieces on this not-quite-news story, is still there broadcasting his every whine.

The Globe did somehow miss his false statement on Facebook and Twitter last week about the president and the "fiscal cliff." I guess those reporters can't be expected to report on everything.

This is proof positive of how little Scott Brown has to offer. Nothing but cheap shots and phony claims of independence. Great props too--the barncoat and pickup truck. No real ideas, though.

How about a list of Markey's ideas.

I agree "incredible1".  I'd be quite happy with comparing all of Scotty's fabulous "ideas" to any Democratic candidate.  Bring it.  Let's see if our former male "nude" model and ex-Senator HAS an idea first. But as long as he insists on basing his campaigning on personal attacks irrelevent of any real "issue", I think it's fair to bring up how he "worked his way" through college.

I've always gotten a person to answer the phone when calling Markeys office 2022252836 to show support for issues. His staff are always open to hearing and often agree with my point of view and will explain how he has worked for the issues that I care about. I've actually had a harder time getting through to Kerry and Browns offices. *** note. I highly recommend the "Congress" app created by the Sunlight Foundation. You get contact numbers, bill information, voting records, committeeninfo and news of everyone in congress. http://sunlightfoundation.com/projects/congress-for-android/

The sound you heard was Scottzo not so graciously opening the door for Bill Weld, who actually knows how to run a campaign.

I'm glad to see that we can look forward to another campaign of substance and style from Scott Brown. Perhaps next we'll be hearing about Congressman Markey's family tree, or find out which sarcastic epithet has been chosen to mock his educational achievements (since "professor" won't work this time). I can hardly wait.

You cannot be serious. Next are you saying he's from Kenya? Why don't you spend your time voting the way you promised when you were elected instead of scouring the books for technicalities to keep your competition out? If you did your job the way the voters wanted you to, you wouldn't have to worry about competition.

All Congressmen and Senators live in Washington. Only the brain dead think otherwise.

Flying back to your district or state every weekend would get old very fast and few do it. It's how they represent your interests that are important, not how often they come back to Mass for a couple of days to eat lunch with a group of bankers.

It's nothing new. Flying home didn't even become practical until there were passenger jets. For most of our history those in Congress depended on trains or stagecoaches for long-distance travel.

Well, well well" Speak for yourself, "who-cares-1940".  It certainly does matter to many Massachusetts voters who vote for state representation in Washington. Hopefully, it matters to many more people than you want to give credit.

But for u ("who-cares-1940"), why not go all out & proclaim that it dosen't matter what a Dem politician does! Because, u & your fellow Democrat voters will support any person with a 'Democrat' sign hung around their neck.

@cantabrigian01: you're claiming Markey doesn't adequately represent his constiuency.  Care to provide examples?

so little scotty swiping at EM's residency status? Should not everyone that the boy who is not our senator anymore take a swipe at him being an actual senator and that train wreck he just ran to get re-elected?

Apparently no one has told little scotty that we residents of Massachusetts have seen his act and are not too fond of it....hint-hint son....find something else to do. Perhaps run out of Maryland now that you belong to their National Guard. We residents promise not to let Maryland people know what a bust you are as a legislator....you can do that (easily) yourself....

We know that "Democrat" money, like $40+million for Prof.Warren, & who knows how much for the young Kennedy boy can grease the wheels for novice Democrats to win elections.

A blogger once wrote that even a 'ham sandwhich' labeled ,Democrat can win election in this state!!!

No matter if they are gangstas_corrupt_thieves_or _liars, just hang a "Democrat" sign around their neck and they are the 'golden'  candidates for a lifetime. They do note even have to live in the state!

Ask Markey . . . what Massachusetts' hotel does he call 'home?'

It's scary how quickly you folks spout the latest talking points.  Here's the funny part.  Scott Brown transfered to a Washington area guard unit.  And Markey holds monthly town halls here in Mass.

dopes with very dull....like their cabezas...axes to grind. Would be really scary if they actually knew what they are talking about....however, what they really are....vestiges of a political party...so far out of wack...that have to come up with a "snappy" name for those who now control their destiny....the tea party....what a gross ripoff of our history...

Joan Vennochi "Malden is Markey’s home city, but the Beltway is basically home, since he primarily lives in Chevy Chase, Md."

Has residency been made an issue before?  Of course, this is standard political stuff.   As this article explains, Markey himself had polling done, concerned that it could be an issue.   All part of the game, sizing up the race.  Do voters care about Markey's residency?  Will the Boston Globe be true to form and freak at anything Brown says?

Scott should stay away from the insinuations and personal attacks and focus on the issues.  The Warren thing totally backfired on him, and really hurt his reputation as a good guy.

Replies

Senator Brown should be who he is, follow his instincts, and see where that takes him. We already know about his reputation as a "good guy".

Boatwrote, have you considered applying for a private investigator position with Donald Trump?

Scott, get in the truck and drive.  Keep driving and driving and driving, we'll tell you when to stop.

Markey should start by getting a haircut; the Saturday Night Fever style has been out since he last lived in Meffa.
