South Boston man faces gun charges

A 25-year-old South Boston man was charged with illegal possession of a gun and ammunition after police said they found a rifle and 48 rounds of ammunition Tuesday, Suffolk County prosecutors said.

A 911 call reporting a man with a gun at the intersection of Kemp Street and Father Songin Way in Dorchester led police to search Alexis A. Laboy.

Police allegedly found a Calico M-100 rifle and 22-caliber ammunition, neither of which Laboy had a license to possess, Suffolk District Attorney Daniel F. Conley’s office said.

The M-100 can hold up to 100 rounds of ammunition in a special clip, according to the manufacturer’s website.

Laboy is scheduled to return to court Jan. 29.
