Patrick backs former public safety head as district judge

Governor Deval Patrick nominated his outgoing public safety director to become a district court judge Friday, just weeks after she announced her resignation from his administration amid controversy.

In a news conference, Patrick lauded Mary Beth Heffernan’s work as secretary of the Executive Office of Public Safety, her longtime record as a prosecutor, and her temperament.

Surreal, simply surreal. This guy is just giving all of us the finger.

Just curious why the dislike? Please explain. Does he not flip us the bird every time he makes an appointment? Does he not belittle reporters for asking pertinent questions? Just asking.  I mean really, she fails miserably as secretary of public safety, a job she had no right to in the first place and your going to make her a judge? Really?

I wonder what the quid pro quo was?  This didn't come cheap.

She stonewalled on Tubby Tim Murray's Dawn Patrol cell phone records.  She dutifully hired a politically connected demolition derby driver as state highway safety director, and when the scandal blew up, she dutifully took the spear instead of blaming Patrick for the fiasco, so he owes her.  Omerta is not just for the mafia, Heffie is a corrupt hack but she kept her mouth shut.

makes sense, she failed as  public safety secretary so lets make her a judge!   Once in the trough always in the trough.

The state motto should be "F up, move up"

Gee, why all the hate? Is this the Herald? Really, Ms. Heffernan seems like an accomplished lawyer, hard-working, experienced in many areas of the judicial and goventment sectors. Sure, maybe not the best person hired in her domain for a pretty meaningless state job. But did highway accidents soar? Does anyone feel less safe? Has Public Safety somehow been compromised the past few years? I just don't get it.

Sorry, richie-stan, the stae highway safety director is not in charge of the State Police.

This woman shows poor judgment and an inability to conduct any kind of superficial investigation and she is going to be a judge?

I give up!  Just when you think things can't get any worst, this happens.  Well, people of Massachusetss you voted him in and now you are stuck with it all.  This is so wrong, with her record, in my opinion, it is like puting the fox in charge of the chicken coop.

This has the double whammy of Patrick making a bad decision AND him knowing that voters will be outraged by it, and he just doesn't care.

She's a hack's hack.  She'll be a hack judge.  Her father was a hack judge too, and he botched a domestic violence case and got an innocent woman killed as a result.  http://www.nytimes.com/1988/10/02/us/judge-censured-for-rudeness-to-woman-in-massachusetts.html

You've got to be Sh****ing me.
