Newton police officers’ egging prank didn’t go over easy

It had all the ingredients of a teenage caper: eggs, alcohol, and a little red getaway car.

But when the Framingham police responded to a call just before 2 a.m. last month that a house had been egged, the culprits weren’t juveniles, but experienced, off-duty Newton police officers.

Once again, we have cops covering for other cops' bad behavior. Five cops are out and about at 2AM and only one has been drinking. Oh sure, and cops who had not been drinking thought it was a good idea to egg somebody's home. They sound like a bunch of seventeen-year-olds with a couple quarts of beer on Halloween! Then, when pulled over by the Framingham police, the driver of the getaway car provides that officer with a Police Identification Card---the police equivalent of a "Get Out Of Jail Free" Card.

As for an intoxicated officer being driven home to another town by the Framingham Police, that intoxicated officer should have been placed in protective custody until sober, when he could have been released to a family member for transport home.

The City of Newton needs to clean house and get the bullies and sociopaths off the payroll of the Police Department. This type of behavior and preferential treatment only serves to reinforce the public perception of cops thinking and acting as if they are above the law. And shame on the Framingham Police who accommodated their brother pranksters. It was very bad jugment to bring a drunk to his own home where he could potentially grab his car keys and head out on the road with even more tragic results.

BTW, I have never been arrested, with the total official extent of my contact with police being one speeding ticket 35 years ago. I was brought up to believe that bad behavior has its consequences---something that all these cops may need to learn first-hand.

"“People in police work get bored and there’s tremendous amount of stress and they joke with each other,” said Mintz. Still, their behavior was unusual and unacceptable, he said."

Such statements are as embararssing and unacceptable as the alleged vandalism and misconduct by the five officers.  And they sound patently silly.  One gets stressed by boredom in police work?

Release the names of the officers.  Shame isn't an appropriate punishment when it is anonymous.

HEY, SARGE--SORRY BUT IF YOU DON'T MAKE SURE THESE 5 COPS AREN'T FIRED YOUR ALL DONE in Newton as a boss. NO RESPECT!!!

And these are the guys arresting our children who subsequently wind up with a lifelong arrest record.  Arrests are logged with the FBI national database where it remains forever, and if a case is dismissed you have to proactively request your State Police to contact the FBI to update the database, otherwise there will only be a charge and no dismissal on that record.  Just saying, these egg-throwers have an awful lot of power.

Gee... wonder if I can get hired at the Newton force... Sounds like a super fun place to wo rk. . .

I'm a law and order guy ... but this is what happens when you have unions.... the thuggers run wild....cops or not.

Same police force had the chief canned last year due to sexual harassment of a subordinate.  Way to go Mayor Setti Warren - way - to - go.

It's only eggs, involved only cops, and the officers paid for professional cleaning -- lighten up, cops are people too.

Must be nice to get free rides from other cops. I mean to somewhere other than the police station.

Newton has become a renagade PD.  No longer on top of their profession.  Someone also needs to look at their practice of dropping off drunks at theNW Hospital ER rather than handling them as PCs.  No other department does this.  Many of these guys are arrogant and disgrace to their profession.  Poor leadership obviously.

I don't know who is worse the EGGHEAD that persuaded them to do it or the four other jerks who couldn't think about the consequences and say NO. They were nothing more than a bunch of juvenile delinquents who never grew up. If I am ever cited in Newton the first thing I going to do is have my lawyer do look into the officer's record to see if it was one of these MORONS. On second thought I wold have my lawyer look into the background of any officer in the DEPARTMENT since there appears to be a full scale COVER UP. As to the Framingham officers who offered a little "PROFESSIONAL BROTHERLY COURTESY" they should be held accountable as well. Where I live the town the police dropped a drunk off in front of a bar. The drunk subsequently went into the bar got into a fight and stabbed his adversary. The town was SUED and it cost the taxpayers a BUNDLE.

If you have ever had your house or car egged, you know it is not a prank and can cost $1000 to fix.
