The Chelsea Street Bridge will be closed every night this week and all next weekend for adjustments to mechanical and electrical systems, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation said. The bridge, which crosses the Chelsea Creek on the Chelsea/Boston line, will be closed to cars and pedestrians every night from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. beginning Sunday, and from 8 p.m. next Friday to 5 a.m. Jan. 14. All traffic will be detoured to Route 1A (McClellan Highway), and the closures will not affect marine traffic, according to a statement from the department. Additional closures are expected later this month and will be announced once the work is scheduled.
