Frank’s Senate declaration rankles Markey

Governor Deval Patrick wasn’t the only one shaken by former Representative Barney Frank’s very public declaration on Friday that he’d like to serve as interim senator if John F. Kerry resigns to serve as secretary of state.

A former colleague, Representative Edward J. Markey, was rankled by the prospect, friends say, in part because of the inevitable poll that would gauge Frank’s popularity as senator. A high approval rating for Frank could overshadow Markey’s candidacy in the special election campaign that would be needed to fill the seat permanently.

It would be so much easier for the Governor to appoint former Congressman Olver.

With all due respect, the interim person will serve only for a few months.  An experienced person is exactly what is needed for that position.

Who exactly are these anonymous so-called "friends"? Can we have just a little more information about who these people are and what their motives might be?

Frank is still the best choice for the people of MA.  Let the governor make history on his own time, and as far a Markey's feelings go, who cares?

Barney Frank is far and away the best choice for the interim senate seat.  "New blood"  with "fresh new ideas"  is a fairy tale notion.  Anyone without experience in the ways of the house and snate will be eaten alive, and will be completely ineffective.  These are not times that the democratic party can afford to have even one member that is ineffective, or invisible.
