A group of Connecticut religious congregations is calling on state officials to allow illegal immigrants to get driver’s licenses and register their vehicles. More than 400 activists gathered Sunday in New Haven to launch a campaign supporting legislation that would expand access to licenses. Several state lawmakers attended and pledged to back a bill during the upcoming legislative session. Congregations Organized for a New Connecticut said about 54,000 Connecticut residents who must drive to work or take children to school cannot get licenses because they are in the country illegally. Advocates say allowing immigrants to have licenses would improve safety on the roads because their driving skills would be tested. Supporters also say the state would get more revenue from the fees paid by immigrants.

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the idea of NOT issuing driving licenses to ILLEGAL ALIENS to help convince them to not come here ILLEGALLY in the first place?
Let's see, ILLEGALLY enter the U.S., get drivers license, send kids to school, qualify for SS and other benefits, have same legal rights as a citizen, get a job, buy a home, buy a car, etc. Oh, did I forget, Obama would like them all to be able to vote.
Why on earth would a foreigner want to bother with LEGAL IMMIGRATION and all the expense and fussing around with the federal government? Just move here and get on with their lives! We can try to sort them out later, and maybe, just maybe their countries of origin will let us send back the really bad ones.
By all means, let's not inconvenience someone who violated our laws, afterall, like the article says, there is REVENUE to be earned.
By that logic, we should be able to charge them tuition for using our schools too, but good luck finding a group that advocates for that...but there is money to be made...
