The flu has spread across northern New England. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said the virus is widespread in 43 states, including Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. WMUR-TV reported that New Hampshire health officials said 12 deaths in the state in December were linked to the flu, which is higher than the last few Decembers. Dr. Jose Montero, public health director, said none of the deaths have been in children, but doctors warn that schools and day-care centers can be breeding grounds for the virus.
