Defense lawyer in trouble after rowdy teen party

A prominent Massachusetts lawyer could face criminal charges after hosting what police records describe as an alcohol-fueled New Year’s Eve party for her teenage daughter at their Scituate home.

Scituate police accused Tracy A. Miner, 54, who has been deemed one of the best white-collar criminal defense lawyers in the country by her peers, of furnishing alcohol to minors, a violation of the state’s social host law, and of keeping a disorderly house. Miner, her 17-year-old daughter, and seven others ages 17 to 19 were summoned to appear before a clerk magistrate in Hingham District Court to determine if charges should be filed.

Party girl.

She might be a good lawyer but a very dumb mother!

Throw the book at her - start making examples of these people.  How stupid can one person be?  Ten years ago, when my youngest son was 15/16, he was furious with me because we would not let him host a party and serve alcohol. Let me see, the legal drinking age is 21 (great example for a parent to knowingly condone underage drinking) and the developing brains of young people are particularly susceptible to alcohol (in a really bad way).  Duh, no we weren't going to serve alcohol to kids AND we would check with other destinations he might be headed to be sure alcohol was not on the agenda.  Of course we couldn't actually control all of his whereabouts especially in college, but we were not going to make things easy while he lived with us. Now, that his brain is more fully formed (I'm seeing signs that the frontal lobe has connected) he is alive, extremely successful, and did not lose friends or face because his parents were responsible. Furthermore he has a respect for alcohol - it's pleasure and it's potential for disaster.  Tracy Miner is a total moron and I could care less that she is "deemed one of the best white-collar criminal defense lawyers in the country by her peers" - She failed parenting 101 and could have been responsible for alcohol poisoning of other's teens who were under her roof.

People need to wait and learn all the facts before casting stones. There was nothing in this story that said Ms. Miner was home or knew anything about the party. Kids do a lot of things without their parents' permission.

umm, how about the part that said she was upstairs in her bedroom asleep?  Or the part that she was throwing a party for her daughter? Wait, did one of her daughter's friends write this?

Please read the piece: "As firefighters treated the teenager, the report said, Miner, who had been asleep, came downstairs wondering what the emergency crews were doing in her house. According to the police report, Miner told investigators that she was throwing a party for her daughter and her daughter’s friends." Good night and thanks for playing!

Yes, we all know teenagers do incredibly irresponsible things which is why they need responsible parents who will rein them in. As I read the article, the kids were in her house and "under the state’s social host law, it is illegal for adults or minors to furnish alcohol or allow it to be consumed in their home by underage drinkers". As a responsible parent, one remains at home while teenagers are at one's house and checks to make sure drinking is not being done. Even if she was not home at the time drinking took place, she is still legally responsible for what goes on in that home. No news alert here - every teen knows the houses where there is no supervision. Welcome to parenthood - one can't abdicate responsibility without some serious consequences. Since she is a "top attorney" she sure can't "plead" ignorance of the law and I'm sure she's pretty darn good at getting people (including herself) out of taking responsibility. She sounds like a "delightful" role model for her kids. She's the "fun" Mom. Spare me!
