In the weeks since he lost his US Senate seat and began considering a run for another, Scott Brown has been embroiled in a fight for a far less coveted office: chairmanship of the state Republican Party.
For the past month, Brown has been trying to install his campaign’s deputy finance director as leader of the party that could propel him to another statewide special election win.

Pass the popcorn.
That some "took offense" to Brown's efforts to portray himself as bi-partisan just tells me they have no clue how to actually get elected in Massachusetts.
Brown didn't lose because he was (semi) bi-partisan, but because many didn't believe him when he said that, and because he refused to discuss things that MA voters cared about.
Yes, but Brown specifically ran on a slogan of vote for the candidate not the (Republican) Party. Although that was the right tactic for the last race, it does make it hard for Hughes to argue that she should be chair of the party. Although Brown can try to run away from the Republican party in the next election, I'm pretty sure that tactic won't work for all the rest of the candidates. Someone has to own up to being a Republican.
Does anyone else feel like Scott Brown lost, or lost so badly, because he lost his likeable image?
I'm a lifelong Democrat who would have never voted for Brown over Warren, but prior to the 2012 election, I was largely indifferent about Scott Brown. He seemed like a reasonable man with whom I disagreed. However, by the end of that race, my view of him had changed completely. I thought he descended into a position where he was whining, condescending, and downright unlikeable.
You've got to be kidding me. THE reason many people voted Republican is because of Scott Brown's bipartisanship. He is the new face of the party IF the party wishes to survive. This is Massachusetts...
Not only votes but actions and attitude. Worked with Gillebrand on making Congressional insider trading illegal, seen smiling and respectful of the President as Obama says "good job". Contrast with "blood and teeth on the floor of the Senate" Elizabeth Warren, who couldn't name a Republican she could work with.
this guy suburb dad is good....albeit short memory. Didn't he forget his buddy l'il scotty taking campaign contributions from the koch brothers....affiliated with that part of the energy cabal who want to keep gas and oil prices high....?
Seems like a lot of conservative Taxawhoshetts Republicans are starting to act like Demomob machine hacks. They disfavor things about Scott brown because he tries to portray himself as willing to work in a bipartisan way at times. The conservatives who don't like that act like Tea Partiers, willing to see issues from only one perspective, calling themselves principled. That is instead of the uni-eyed dogmatists that they really are. These are the sorts that have brought the GOP to the level where it is hardly a true opposition for the Demomob, which itself is trying to become an unopposed national machine. And there are those of us still alive who have lived through national machine politics in such overseas funspots as Albania and North Korea. Am I saying coservative Democrats resemble Communist Party members? Just think about the implications of one party rule.
I think your arguments would be more persuasive if you used real words.
And it would seem that you are saying Democrats resemble Communist Party members, and the crushing, oppressive political classes of Albania and North Korea, which seems a tad unreasonable.
please...please....please keep the boy who was a senator and now might/would/could.....be the senator from my state as the chairman of your party. The boy, l'il scotty should be running your repub/tea party here in Mass. Why? Because you forgot your way and I hope it stays that way during my life time.
We have had some great Republican representation in this state. Silvio Conte was my favorite....where/when the frig did these dopes in the current repub/tea party of Massachusetts forget how he was able to truly work with members of the opposite side to get things done for our state and the country.
Go back to the boy senator when first elected. See him standing and pledging allegiance to the mcconnell led senate whose goal was to make Obama a one term president. What the frig was the boy senator thinking about? Probably longevity in this body with eyes on a distant run for the WH. Ahhh, but l'il scotty forgot the citizens of his state. I guess he figured he could come back for photo ops with his stupid jacket and dumb truck....yeah, that'll make those people keep voting for me.
So the bottom line is that vacous thinking and actions don't cut it here in Mass. It might in Kentucky or Texas or Indiana...but not here. scotty...stay out of politics....a mag cover spread, jacket and truck are not the same as legislating for your state and country.
From an expert in "vacous thinking"
have read your notes too....prIor to the recent election of Senator Warren. Too bad your input made as much difference as the air above your neck. You are what your repub/tea party is.....and, that is currently out of office....western suburb einstein...
Senator Brown.. Return to the home ground and run for Governor of Mass. You are familiar with the Democrats and their operating proceedures both acceptable and non acceptable to put it politely. As long as King Obama is in office the democrats have the power in the Senate and will play all kinds of games that minipulate voters votes to retain this seat. You have seen the "Washington Viris" that overtakes our Government and anyone elected to office. COME BACK TO MASS WHERE YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERANCE AND WHERE REPUBLICANS HAVE BEEN ELECTED TO THE GOVERNS OFFICE. See Peter Lucas article inFridays Lowell Sun.
shouldn't it be EX-senator brown? As a repub governor...he could not qualify to clean Weld or Celluci's shoes...
The honorific remains after one leaves office.
I've always believed Brown's real goal in 2010 was getting his name known across the state, so he'd be a step up when he ran for the job he really wanted - Governor.
I think he was as surprised as anyone else when he actually won the Senate seat. He certainly loved att the attention.
Scot Brown: "I'm an Independent. No, I am bi-partisan. In no way am I a Republican, except when I need campaign money. But, I'm still a Republican."
Scott Brown, the man of many ways, including a clothes and ex-nude centerfold model. After all, didn't he look swell in his *everyman* brown leather barn jacket while driving around the Bay State in his pickup truck?
And now we find that Scott Brown is having difficulty, too, w/ his own -- or is he Republican? -- party leadership. No surprise from the Etch-A-Sketch man of many disguises.
Enough is enough. No more Scott Brown.
