Springfield police have released the identity of the city’s second homicide victim of the year. They received a call about shots fired just before 6 a.m. Wednesday. Responding officers found Jimmie Acevedo, 42, unresponsive on the ground outside suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken by ambulance to Baystate Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead about a half-hour later. Police said Acevedo was found less than a mile from his home. Nearby residents reported hearing several shots. The shooting is under investigation, and there was no word on suspects.
