NEW BEDFORD

Suspect returned to scene, police say

Police said a New Bedford man changed his clothes before he returned to the scene of a shooting near Tinkham and Church streets Tuesday, but he apparently did not remove a .45-caliber Smith & Wesson handgun from his waistband first. New Bedford detectives arrested Okee Rodriquez, 22, on a charge of illegal gun possession and other gun-related charges, after witnesses pointed him out as the person who fired several times into a speeding white car, police said. Police said it was not known if Rodriquez hit the white car, but they did find seven spent shell casings from a .45-caliber handgun near a car parked in the area. No injuries were reported. Rodriquez pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Wednesday in New Bedford District Court, prosecutors said.
