Big Dig firms lose appeal on $56m in awards

An Appeals Court upheld Thursday lower court decisions vacating the awarding of $56 million to Big Dig contractors, leaving the disputed payments to be determined by the Patrick administration, according to lawyers familiar with the case. A joint venture of Perini Corp., Kiewit Construction, and Jay Cashman Inc. had appealed a Superior Court order vacating awards made under an agreement between the contractors and the public agencies overseeing the Big Dig. The case turned on questions about the authority of a dispute review board to settle claims associated with delays and problems with construction. (State House News Service)
