State campaign finance regulators have found evidence that Lieutenant Governor Timothy P. Murray may have violated state law by accepting political donations from the disgraced former Chelsea housing director.
In a previously undisclosed letter, sent in September, they asked the attorney general to investigate Murray, as well as key members of his campaign team. If eventually charged and found guilty of knowingly accepting illegally raised campaign contributions, the lieutenant governor could face up to six months in jail and a fine of up to $500 for each violation.

Go Globe! Tie Devolve to this thing before he HAMMERS THE MIDDLE CLASS with his taxes!
Hmm, you think this may have something to do with Murray's announcement last week?
What a shallow slimeball, and this little twerp actually persuaded idiot hangers-on around Taxashoosetts political havens that he was going to run for something and got them to toss bills into his hat. It really is a laugh. Deeval labeled Crash Murray as a great lieutenant governor, somewhat akin to the character DoDo in the Skeffington political novel. Now, Crash is using his campaign funds to finance his legal hirings, as if running for office includes insurance against prosecution and orange suits. We've had miscreant House speakers in recent history, plenty of them - and even some wondering if the current Speaker will join that loverly list of legislative leaders - but it has been sometime since a state-wide office holder has come under the investigative spyglass. This illegal campaign donation stuff is piddling, carrying only a six-month House of Correction sentence and a fine of a few thousand bucks. Wonder if the feds have found reason to put Timmy under scrutiny so his offending will produce a legacy that will be at least kind of an equal to the one 'Love all them Taxes' Deeval is trying to erect.
Murray nd McLaughlin just got caught doing what comes naturally to Democratic pols in Massachusetts.
So, if I read this correctly, the AG was notified of possible violations in September and she says nothing about investigating Murray? Can we pass a law that only an Independant (no party affiliation) can become AG.
Our AG indicates she is still investigating McLaughlin, yet the U.S. Attorney is already bringing charges. Maybe we can contract with the Feds to handle all political corruption cases and do away with the AG's position altogether.
Tim Murray is really a disappointment. They need to take away his car keys and telephones. One more mistake I have to blame on Gov. Patrick.
On Lt. Gov. Timothy Murray announced how great everything was going with the renewable energy projects at Air Station Cape Cod or what is called Otis AFB . Murray made the announcements on Jan17,2013 at the Mass Military Reservation and misled U.S. Rep. William Keating, D-Mass., and U.S. Rep. Niki Tsongas, D-Mass. The base has a three year old Furlander 1.5 Megawatt commercial wind turbine installed in 2009 that is having a catastrophic gear box failure. The base spokesperson says there is nothing wrong with the turbine except it needs a new gear box . A gear box 600,000.00 special crane 150,000.00 blade repairs 100,000.00 per blade (three) Does Lt. Gov. Timothy Murray have any real hold on what is going on around him ? Everyone on Cape Cod is aware of the turbine failure !
"Governor Deval Patrick staunchly defended his lieutenant governor on Thursday, saying he believes that Murray did nothing wrong"
"'Im All In if Timmy Runs" Says Deville Deval, Together We Can. Now thats tru;ly a pair that can beat a full house.
And into this envirnment taxpayers are asked to pay even more?
Where did McLaughlin get the idea he could get away with the doubling of his salary, an act that would multiply his pension? Are we to imagine that McLaughlin worked tirelessly for Murray out of some kind of "alturism" or understanding that Murray was some kind of "awesome" leader? Is it all that hard to imagine McLaughlin KNEW his support of Murray would give him the kind of political protection that could, virtually, guarantee his crooked scheme would never come to light? Most people don't understand this is the "business" of politics, making astute "friends", finding people you can compromise or exert power over and then exploiting the opportunities you've already determined exist within the political culture. McLaughlin must be dumbfounded his scheme failed; not only did he have an ace in the hole in Murray but he certainly understood the Attorney General's office has shown no propensity to indict (much less investigate) political corruption in this state.
You can bet that even as he tries to sneak out the back door hoping he'll be left alone the tax payers will be funding a fat pension for him. As with many of his "friends" he's had his snout in the trough for a long time.
what a loser. corrupt. drunk. good riddance
Why would we expect anything different in this corrupt hell hole? Now shut up and pay your increased taxes...Deval and his cronies need their retirement fortunes fattenned up.
The crook who destroyed L.G. Murray's political career is on Dracut Democratic town committee. Mike McLaughlin has been a disgrace tru out his political career. Former U.S.Senator Paul Tsongas has always distrusted and disliked Mike McLaughlin. Hopefully justice will be done, a heavy fine, lose of all assests including all property, lose of state pension, and prison sentence would be just ending of a criminal career spaning decades!
"The people get the government they deserve." "Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely." We all sense intuitively the deep truth revealed by these timeless aphorisms. But God forbid that the readers of the Globe, or the voters of Massachusetts, should consider voting for a Republican! "No", goes the lemming cry, "Republicans are for the rich." So the demagogues hold sway, the cesspool remains unpumped, and a vibrant two party system, with checks on the party in power, that does not guarantee good government but at least makes it possible, continues to elude us. And we are "lead" by pygmies like Murray and Deval.
