Gun control group rallies in Boston

About 200 supporters of tighter gun control rallied at the State House on Saturday morning, calling for legislation that would ban assault weapons and require background checks on all gun buyers.

The rally, organized by the Boston chapter of national grass-roots group One Million Moms for Gun Control, coincided with similar events across the country. A march at the Capitol Building in Washington drew thousands of participants, according to the Associated Press.

Markey might be right "“America won’t go along with the NRA’s radical gun agenda,” he told the rally. “We need an army of activists to bring sanity back to this country.... This is the beginning of a revolution.”

The last Revolution started when a bunch of Brits took a walk up towards Concord thinking they were going to go grab some guns.  Things spun out of control very quickly that day so long ago.

I think it is time a lot of folks took a deep breath, on both sides of this argument.

Markey's words are irresponsible, given his position.  He has used the word "revolution".  He may encounter "Freedom Fighters".

C'mon, Les, let's hear it!  Yes, we can! Yes, we can!

I said he was right, can you not read and comprehend?  Oh that is right, you are just the cheering section.

Marke is such an empty suit. He is truly clueless on all fronts.

Automatic weapons have been illegal since 1934. What is Markey talking about? Check out David Mamet's reply to gun control advocates at Daily Beast website.

I got bored about two paragraphs into it and then just skimmed, same stupid anti gun nut rubbish.  I take it Mularkey thinks we can all go to the local gun show and buy full auto weapons, no questions asked?  How come I never see those for sale?

I don't care what you call it, guns designed to kill lots of people fast should face much more strict regulation, if not an outright ban.

This mantra of the NRA being a front for gun manufacturers is getting to be almost laughable.  Spew it out, hope it sticks.  Nevermind reality, anti gun nuts like Markey do not trade in reality.

"According to published statements,[71] the organization's total income for 2011 was $218,983,530 with total expenses of $231,071,589. Approximately one half of the NRA's recent income has come from fundraising, sales, advertising, and royalties. The majority of the remainder originates from membership dues, and approximately $2,100,000 originates from gun manufacturers"

2M from manufacturers.  Let's see, 1% comes from gun makers and the anti gun nutters claim they are driving the boat?  How stupid is that?

What a clever scheme!  The NRA has a huge lobby in Washington.  Obviously it is supported by its MEMBERS, but we need to get rid of it.  What do we do?  We tell the members that it does not represent them.  Hmmmm, we tell them it represents the gun makers!  Separate them, get rid of the evil NRA.  Then we will have no one to stand in our way.  Brilliant.

Surprisingly, a few NRA members actually have fallen for this utter nonsense.  Even it were true that gun makers contributed more than members, it would be good for gun owners.  The NRA is the only place a gun owner can find out what is going on in Hollywood East, certainly not on MSM.

Love this claim "The NRA does not represent its members/gun owners".  Strange, how come we all pay dues?  We do read their magazines so we know what they are up to.  When was the last time ol' Mularkey Markey sent out a magazine outlining his exploits around Washington?  The anti gun nutters want to divide gun owners into small, more manageable groups, hunters, target shooters, home defense gun owners and then handle them one by one.

Nice try nutters, this gun owner is not buying your bologna.

And Markey?  Quit preaching that you would like an "Army" and a "revolution", it just does not sound good.  You might run into some patriots who will ask you about that oath you took to protect and defend the Constitution, not raise armies and start revolutions.

The NRA certainly isn't about rifles anymore.  It's not about hunters.  It's not about gun safety.  It's about gun sales.

Who gave Markey directions to Boston?

More importantly, WHY would they?

Liz Warren put up a smoke signal.

“I know the people here today are representative of the people of Massachusetts,” said Linsky, who has filed gun control legislation in the state legislature. “The overwhelming majority want and demand more effective gun laws.”

When are clowns like this going to understand that we do not run a democracy, we do not violate rights because an "overwhelming majority" wants to violate them?  Massachusetts already has violated enough 2nd amendment rights.  Finger printing, "Suitability", "may issue", "3 Letters of reference", "Police Chief discretion".  ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

Who do these people think they are?  Linsky filed for some more legislation?  How about Linsky filing to actually protect some kids, not violate some more rights.

Does anyone really believe that Founding Fathers would have said "Yup, we think that a Police Chief should have complete authority as to whether a person can own a handgun."  After having had to fight the Brits on their way to confiscate guns at Concord?

All your rights are regulated to some extent.  Your right to freedom of religion stops well before human sacrifice, your right to freedom of speech doesn't allow you to slander or, the classic, yell "fire" in a crowded theater.  These are rights, also enshrined in the constition.  Your right to bear arms already doesn't permit you to have a nuclear weapon or a tank.  So, meaningful, useful gun regulations (the well-regulated militia, remember?) are not an infringement on your rights.

Wow, Markey looks ancient. This guy must be sleeping most of the day. Thousands turned out for the gun show in Marlborough today and waited 2 hours for entrance. These clowns wouldn't know the business end of a firearm from their a**e*.

Probably didn't hear the inane conversation you hear out of a bunch of anti gun nutters either, I bet?

I didn't know that this rally for gun control was occuring in Boston. I would have attended it. I fully support a ban on assault weapons, they have no justifiable role in civilian-based situations.

I am frightened and uncomfortable with the misguided power that NRA has. As usual, money rules the legislatures, and private citizens can not match what NRA does in our legislatures. That is wrong.

Further, I resent the '2nd Amendment', as it lost its relevancy shortly after it was written: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

That amendment was intended to protect a young democracy from "Mother England", from which we were separating.  There is no current relevancy for private gun ownership. It's time to get real and quit the gun love that is killing kindergarten children and teachers, people in movie theaters, and far too many unarmed Americans. Guns aren't the solution, they're the problem. I condemn guns.

It is as relevant today as it was the day it was written. MA is proof of that.

Just because you are too shallow to do any research and not understand those guys were not writing merely about England, but our own government as well, is your problem.  Spewing stupidity such as yours should be regulated.

What a pitiful showing, the pro gun folks had at least 1000.

If all Boston, a major city, could muster was 400, it is going to be a long time before there are actually a Million Moms.

The NRA already has over 4 Million PAYING members.
