A former longtime mathematics teacher at Deerfield Academy, an exclusive prep school in Western Massachusetts, is being accused of having sexual contact with a student during his tenure, and the school on Monday said it has notified authorities and launched its own investigation.
“We write with deeply troubling news,” Deerfield officials wrote in a letter to the school community, which was posted to its website.

I attended Deerfield Academy for four years and graduated in 1990. I was as close to Mr. Hindle as a student could possibly be and probably as close as any student ever was to him during the 44 years he worked there. There is not one thing ever that I experienced or witnessed that would lead me to believe this accusation. Mr Hindle was not only the best teacher most of us ever had but a truly incredible person who always had our best interests in his mind and heart.
