A Norwood police officer escaped injury early Tuesday when he lost control of his cruiser on an icy road and slid into a pole, Norwood police spokesman Kevin Grasso said. The unidentified officer was driving through the intersection of Union and Sumner streets just after 2 a.m. looking for a suicidal man when the cruiser slid off the street and into a pole, Grasso said. Grasso said the crash was weather-related, and the man believed to be suicidal was located.
