GOP prods a hesitant Scott Brown to run for Senate

With time running short, Washington Republicans have begun a “full court press’’ to persuade an increasingly reluctant Scott Brown to run in the special election to replace John F. Kerry, say two leading Massachusetts GOP figures.

The eleventh-hour effort, coordinated by the National Republican Senatorial Committee, comes as those familiar with Brown’s deliberations are becoming convinced that he will not run and instead will look for a job in the private sector.

What a mess...

Just what we need: a Democrat to the right of Scott Brown.

Lynch is a Southern Democrat if you know what I mean.

A competitive primary, which is good news for the voters, and good news for anyone out there thinking of a run for higher office in the future. One candidate is hand-picked by the political elite and was expecting a clear playing field, while the other candidate apparently ignored the memo, and is actively campaigning for the people's vote. Advantage on day one: Lynch.

@ndcsjp You can join what you think is the "elite" by getting involved with your party's town committee.  There is no "elite."  There are just those who care deeply enough to devote lots of time to the task of choosing our leaders.

Lynch's run is obviously there only to bolster support for Markey.   He stands no chance outside of his out-of-touch district.  We all know that, so he obviously must.

So why does the Globe care? You KNOW that it is not rooting for Scott Brown, or any GOP candidate.

Replies

Not only 'not rooting for', but will actively campaign against (again).

Remember that indepth piece The Globe did on Scott Brown last fall? Did you folks even read it? His path is already mapped out. Oh wait, the story was in the "liberal" newspaper...I don't think Fox News reported it. Never mind!

Scott Brown could actually show class by not entering the race. His character took a big hit last November and he was exposed as a petty selfish brat. He would not win the election and maybe if he waits and then runs for governor he might have a chance. Voters are far more likely to elect a republican govenor than senator.

Replies

Scooter was a petty selfish brat from his election to his defeat, not just in November. That's why everyone but the petty selfish tea baggers loathes him.

Scott Brown has got too much class to try it again. The morons spoke when they elected Lizzie. His best bet is to move out of the state of hypocrisy and live in a more sensible environment that actually has educated voters.

where do you, live tommy?

Mass. has the most educated voters in the country.

Whoever wins the seat is going to have to run again next year or in 2015 if memory serves.  Why would Brown want to go through that?  Why hasn't he nailed down a job with Fidelity or State Street yet?  Do they consider him a loser and not want him around?

Your name and picture make me laugh every time I look. Thanks for the little lift.

Why would Scott Brown be hesitant?

How about the Boston Globe's late October coverage, including back to back

"total hatchet job" (NECN/Cambridge Jim Braude's words ) on Brown

I also 'Dislike' the biased coverage of the Globe.

http://elizabethwarrenwiki.org/ is merely a conservative website. By reactionaries for reactionaries. In other words, "biased." So, if you "also 'Dislike' the biased coverage of the Globe" why do you subscribe? The Globe leans left; the Herald right- so what's the big deal?

The GOP Senate Committee evidently thinks it has a masochist on its hands in Taxashoosetts.  The major question for Brown to decide is whether he thinks Southie Lynch and Big Mouth Markey will damage each other in a primary.  If he believes the Democrats can swarm around a primary winner, he's smart to turn his eyes to the private sector.  Why would anybody want to go through statewide elections in four years?  That is punishment only a professional pol could even consider, a guy like Liveshot Kerry or Markey or that husband of the gambling lady on the North Shore.  On top of it all, this Cohasset bumkpin with a sudden urge to be the Mo Cowan of the right adds just another wrinkle to Brown's probable exit from the Bay State political scene.  Too bad - he might have matured into a  responsible and most helpful advocate for his state.

Brown should go for Governor.  Massachusetts occassionally has a spell of sanity and decides to counter the all-Dem legislature on Beacon Hill with a Repub Governor.   Also, Devolve Patrick is working hard on his crazy left credentials, working overtime to raise taxes and fees, play class warfare, make affirmative action hires and coddle illegals and EBT recipients.   A backlash in favor of a conservative is a possibility, even in this state.

What's with all the insulting nicknames, Guys?

Massachusetts made it clear we would not elect a Republican to the Senate as it's presently constituted.  Moreover, Brown signed a letter with 44 other Senators promising to oppose anyone and everyone President Obama appoints to head the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. That says he places party politics above democracy's principles, contrary to his claims during the last campaign.  And he signed Grover Norquist's pledge to vote against any bill that might increase taxes, in return for campaign funding from Norquist's organization (whose supporting donors are secret).  Those two actions alone disqualify him to represent us in the Senate.

Love that the political reporter from the Globe joined Kerry's staff....nothing to see here

Let me get this straight.  Lynch voted against the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare)?  Just how does that help his "working man".  Romneycare works just fine in Massachusetts, and Obamacare is based on it.  Lynch is only going to make this election more expensive, more tedious, and for all I know, elect Brown.
