Judge orders boy to find job to pay for vandalism

A Western Massachusetts boy who spray-painted graffiti onto his neighbors’ homes as an 11-year-old was ordered Wednesday to get a job so he can pay the victims $1,000 in restitution — and learn a life lesson at the same time.

The boy, who was identified in the Massachusetts Appeals Court ruling by the pseudonym Avram, had previously had charges of juvenile delinquency put on hold for one year in return for his promise to make restitution to his neighbors in Easthampton.

So, this was not an isolated event ("one of the homes") . . . and one of the recommendations is to have him babysit!?!?  Uh, are we a little out of touch with reality here?  Raise your hand if you would leave your children with a 12 year old juvenile delinquent.

Oh, I forgot.  "Everyone deserves a second chance".

Not with my kids.  Get a grip.

Bravo to Judge Collins.

Teach them young that work is bad, what a stupid lawyer for thinking of filing an appeal...my bell is always ringing with kids wanting to shovel or rake leaves for $30 a pop...he has four years...this is a valid punishment and his parents should make sure he does it...

a full year and nothing paid? Where are the parents? They should double the fine and give it to the parents for not making sure the lesson was learned. We really expect a 11/12 year old to follow up and pay a fine without the parents making sure the debt is at least being earned.

The parents and the kid should be wearing a sandwich board after failing the judges orders.

You've got that right!  Can you ever believe that the parents let this kid get away with this?

The parents are awful.   They have to be just terrible.

Judge Collins is a baaaad man. We need more like him.
