Plymouth officer’s missing service weapon recovered

A handgun that disappeared after a Plymouth police officer inadvertently left it in a courthouse restroom has been recovered. Chief Michael Botieri said the gun was recovered Wednesday afternoon, but did not say how it was tracked down. He told The Patriot Ledger that his department would not be seeking criminal charges and that the case is considered closed. The gun had not been fired. Captain John Rogers Jr. put the gun down in the restroom of Wareham District Court at about 3 p.m. Monday, then left without it. When he went back for it minutes later, it was gone.

And this Plymouth police CAPTAIN walks away with the recovered gun in his holster and nothing more than a red face for being stupid as punishment?  Oh yeah, that thickheaded blue line we all hear about. . .

This was a lapse that could have ended in someone's death. How many times is it repeated daily, guns entering the shadow market. All guns should have a tracking chip that cannot be obliterated, and the last legal owner of a lost or illegally transferred gun given a hearing and possible penalty. As for the captain, its shocking there is no disciplinary action taken.
