Light snow headed for Boston today

The Boston area will get some snow today, but not much accumulation, according to the National Weather Service.

The snow, about an inch around Boston and 2 inches on the Cape and islands, should hold off until after sunset and will be part of a storm that will largely miss the area, said meteorologist Bill Simpson of the National Weather Service.

“This is going to be a pretty good-sized storm, but it’s going to be way past us by the time it develops,” Simpson said.

For the rest of the weekend into next week, much of the state will get daytime highs hovering near the freezing mark.

Tonight, Boston temperatures should hover around 20, with Worcester in the mid- to upper teens, Simpson said.

On Sunday, it should be around the freezing mark in Boston with partly sunny skies and thickening afternoon clouds. It should be in the upper 20s around Worcester.

Sunday night will be cold, with partly cloudy skies in Boston and lows in the low to mid-20s. Wind will blow from the northwest at 15 to 25 miles per hour. To the west, the Worcester area will get lows in the high teens.

To kick off the workweek, Monday will be mostly sunny with highs around freezing in the Boston area, Simpson said. In the Worcester area, highs will be in the upper 20s to low 30s.

Monday evening, Boston will be clear and cold, with dry air and lows in the mid-teens. Around Worcester, it will also be clear with lows in the low teens.

On Tuesday, Boston will get a mix of sun and clouds with highs around freezing again. The Worcester area will have highs in the upper 20s, Simpson said.
