School Superintendent Carol R. Johnson has recently been in discussions with the mayor and the School Committee about her need to be in Tennessee frequently to care for her ill husband, a circumstance that has raised questions about her continued tenure in her post.
“She wants to stay through the rest of the year, but who is to say? Her husband is sick,” said an official privy to discussions about her future.

Seriously? Would a lowly teacher of school office manager be granted such latitude? Here's a wild notion; move her husband to Boston, where rumor has it there are some pretty okay hospitals.
More outrageous nonsense from Beantown government.
Jacobus57 has made a very good suggestion, but Mrs. Johnson can also advise her superiors she will fulfill her contract and take voluntary retirement. This is what other federal, state & city employees are expected to do when they want to vacate their job.
Paid or unpaid leave is not the answer given the serious mess of the Boston public school system.
I don't blame her if she wants out. It's an impossible situation, you can come up with whatever, 200 zone plan, no zone plan, there's no fair way to deal with having some schools that are much better than others.
