Maine’s Chickadee Check-off program is in danger of disappearing from state income tax forms. The tax form check-off has been around for 30 years, allowing Mainers to make charitable contributions on their tax forms in support of a Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife’s Endangered and Nongame Wildlife Fund. The program raised more than $129,000 in 1985, but just $37,000 last year. Wildlife officials say if contributions drop below $25,000, the check-off will be eliminated from tax forms.
