UMass Boston gerontology program suspended

Once a leader in the field, institute to stop accepting applicants

Since its inception more than 30 years ago, the gerontology program at the University of Massachusetts Boston has been regarded as a leader in aging studies and elder care.

“We captured worldwide discussion on the concept of productive aging,” said Scott Bass, who established the program and is now provost at American University in Washington, D.C. “The gerontology program was the poster child.”

Comments

Both Gerentology and Labor Studies, humm. How about a combination? "Employment, Retirement, and Income Security" (ERISA), pun intended.

Many, many topics can be taught online_of which gerontology is one of them.

However, too bad for the all those foreign students who wanted a PhD and were willing to pay anything, but still could not explain the meaning of, "gerontology" at the end of the program!

Further more _ who ever is in charge of UMB needs to investigate why there are so many students who paid admission, completed the course work but never got to graduate?????

Someone needs to explain this fiasco: no graduation numberswhich can reflect the huge admissions.

This article does not make it clear that it is the UNDERGRADUATE gerontology program that was suspended. UMass Boston has several graduate Gerontology programs that are doing very well including a Gerontology PhD program and the Management of Aging Services online program which offers a Masters degree and Graduate Certificate.
