Amid the turmoil, Patrick is calming voice of caution

FRAMINGHAM — He is the anti-Chris Christie.

While the bellicose New Jersey governor likes to bark orders during natural disasters, Governor Deval Patrick takes a softer approach, the calm voice of caution in the black fleece vest.

together we can, raise taxes on the middle class, great slogan. together we can pay for benefits for illegals off the tax payer, great slogan. together we can have 47,000. missing welfare recipients, great slogan.

I have never seen such a fawning bit of cheerleaderism, even in the Globe.  Pieces like this are truly embarrassing.

Yet you pay for the privilege! Thanks for the check!

Someone has a mancrush on our Govenor.

Getting a thrill up your leg?

God...I thought I was crazy, but reading these response actually validated me. Apparently the Globe is relying on cheaper help and decided to grab a junior at UMASS-Amherst to write this piece. My father was like Deval. Before I would go out he'd calmly tell me to make the right choice...So I'd go out and get drunk, smoke pot, and have unprotected sex for the next few hours...

Patrick is defintiely anti-Christie - that's why he's increases taxes tremendously to make us pay for his incomptence and mismanagement. Patrick was also calm and unenthusiastic and did nothing to remove the high official in charge of dept of health even after hundreds were killed or wounded by meningitis not to mention thousands of hard criminals released through State's fraudulent crime laboratory testing.  He's also calm when handing out millions in welfare checks to ineligible freeeloaders.

Let's not forget the head of the Transportation department...that was an 80,000/year wreck...

Patrick isn't dealing with the kind of devastation that Christie is having to face after Sandy.  Not a fair comparison.

My God, did you graduate from the Pyongyang School of Journalism?

LOL at the comments.  I've been watching television news to see if anyone can find out what to do when ordered 1) to stay off the roads or face a year in jail AND 2) evacuate the low-lying areas. Gov. was asked by Ch. 4 anchors but slid as usual off a real answer.

I love the world "calm".  Reminds me of the question Chris Matthews asked Bill Weld in 2008 when he said he supported Barack Obama because he is so calm. Matthews responded: Chauncey Gardiner was calm in "Being There".  Would have been even funnier from someone whose leg wasn't tingling...

Boy - these posters are soo correct!  I wish he was running around saying his hair is on fire and making mistake after mistake. Panic now...we.re all gonna die!!!!!!!!

Hey Globe, can't believe you didn't call him "presidential." My only question to Deval is, where was Andrea "fan lady"Cabral during yesterdays pressers? I needed a good laugh.

Another sycophantic article about tax and spend Deval. While I am a Globe subscriber, I am not sure how much longer I can tolerate such leftist drivel. The Globe fails to note that Deval has caved in favor of the public sector unions, the illegal immigrant lobby, and the public assistance lobby, to the detriment of the middle class taxpayer who work in the dreaded private sector. Now that Deval is a self-professed lame duck, he has no concern for the people who go to work every day in the private sector and struggle to pay their bills and pay for his largesse with public dollars.

If he had a lick of common sense he would indeed be alarmed by the failures on his watch.  What's your point? he's a Genial incompetent?

My lawdie... where are the barf bags?  Is this Levenson guy trying to butter up Deeval the Magnificent so he can follow in Glen Johnson's footsteps to a Washington yob?  With softsoap like this, Levenson has set a tone it will be hard to match in future editions of the Glob. . . He had better call Johnson and ask how the oil is kept warm enough . . .

Gosh, fellas, you all seem so unhappy--sitting snowbound realizing the world is changing and leaving you behind (see election/2012).  You're besieged by taxes, illegal immigrants threatening your jobs, homosexuals (unless they're under Archdiocese protection), same-sex couples, and, of course, an African American governor.  It's tough, but at least the Globe gives you space to vent.  Not all is bad, huh?

You can always load your pick-ups and head south.  South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisana, Florida and so many other states could free you of all that plagues you here in Taxachusetts--and, as a bonus, you probably could be walking the beach today.

Feel free to check that box on your tax returns to pay the higher rate. Deval will appreciate it.

Excellent post Schmooz!

The Gov did his job in an emergency situation, nothing more nothing less. Too bad we did not see his public safety commissioner fanning herself in the background in subsequent media sessions. Where did Deval find this gem?

The Suffolk County Sheriffs Dept.

I don't agree with much of his politics, but I appreciate a reasonable, calm approach in a crisis.

Crisis? It was a 12 hour snow storm.

Putting aside the overblown drama of today's journalism, the fact is many a poltical career is made or borken by how a storm is handled.  As a frequent critic of the governor's management skills, I believe he made the right call at the right time.  The next phase of focus is now  how well the T and other other agencies recover.

I'm no Deval fan, but give the guy a break.  Except for the travel ban, which I thought was a bit over the top, he handled the situation well - as he should have.

The TRAVEL BAN was ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY AND WHY THINGS WENT AS WELL AS THEY DID.  Incredible is a good name for you because it is indeed incredible for you to fault him for that OR anything related to this storm.  He was perfect!

Globe is DESPERATE to make Deval look good after his tax increase announcement.

I thought the Governor was GREAT!!!!!  He was just excellent.  He handled every single question with

calm confidence while giving the public just the right amount of seriousness to take this as a big event.  I really

thought I got a MUCH better indication of just why I voted for him and would again for any public office he

wants.

How does President Deval Patrick sound?  I LIKE it.  Good, very good job, Governor!
