Sciortino plans run for Markey’s seat

State Representative Carl Sciortino, a Democrat from Medford, plans to run for Edward J. Markey’s seat in Congress, which is not yet vacant, according to an announcement he posted on his Facebook page.

“I am running to continue the strong progressive leadership that the families of the Fifth District have always counted on,” Sciortino said in a statement. “I look forward to bringing my record of accomplishment to Washington to fight for our progressive values.”

Carl has also been a leader on transportation policy, including the Green Line extension, and his constituent services are fabulous.  He represents all of us.

I hope that voters decide that Markey is too valuable in his current job, and keep him where he is while sending Dan Winslow to the Senate. However, I'd be happy to look at Mr. Sciortino for Markey's seat. Maybe ol' Ed will move to the private sector in 2014!
